A Take on Fashion: Gherardo Felloni

January 27, 2022

Gherardo Felloni did not waste a second before infusing Roger Vivier with fresh, contemporary flamboyance. Appointed creative director in 2018, the Tuscan designer has honoured the iconic styles of the luxury accessories Maison while expanding the range of footwear and bags to reflect his more maximalist and buoyant sensibilities. Felloni, who is a passionate jewellery collector and opera singer in his spare time, dreamed of becoming an architect before his father, who ran an atelier for luxury shoes, suggested he spend time in the family business. After working in the heart of various Maisons such as Helmut Lang, Miuccia Prada and John Galliano, he is flourished at Roger Vivier. Call it a perfect fit.

To what extent do you think fashion is about proposing/selling dreams? How might this have this have a positive effect on people?
As it has always been, fashion, cinema, music, dance – they are all supposed to make people dream and are supposed to sell dreams. Especially in this weird moment, I think fashion has assumed a role that is more focused on dreams. For designers, I think this is a chance for us to express ourselves more than ever.

What is one trend or item of clothing that will define the coming year?
In general, I think that clothing will be more and more exciting and more creative. There is more attention today on the return of haute couture and couture dresses. For me, everything that is magical will become a big focus in the coming year.

How does the work you create reflect your dreams of fashion?
I really believe that the magic of fashion will be at the centre of the industry. Fashion makes people dream – whether through the beauty, excess, embroidery, savoir-faire, colour. This is all included in my vision.
